Short answer: every brief names people — an economist, a CEO, an agent. -ish's core value is that you can talk to them. So a name in a story becomes a door: if the person is already in the library (Musk), the door opens on his seat; if not (Fei-Fei Li), a sketch of her is built from the story the moment it is published, and you are talking to her inside a minute. A persona who is named in a story also learns from it — the story's facts about them go into their record. Private people named in a story (a renter, a homeowner) never become seats.
This page is the working record of a discussion in progress (the owner + CC, 09-29). Decisions so far are marked; the rest is open. Nothing here is built yet except the ground it stands on (§1).
The link from a name to a seat is the only missing piece; the machinery on both sides is built.

The growth sweep once drowned on bare names (Peak Ji became a video game, Liang Ning a sportswear brand). A brief never hands over a bare name: it carries the role and usually the company —「Peak Ji, Manus」— and that is a sharp enough query. Decided (owner, 09-29): not a worry. The match is name + role against the library's cards (both roots, via persona_dir), Jev's sentence search doing the fuzzy part.
Mandatory. A brief names renters, an heiress, a local agent. Only a public figure becomes a seat: role-based first (official · executive · founder · economist · author · athlete · artist · scientist) plus a web-footprint check (a page about the person, not just the one story). A private person stays text in the brief — never a chip, never a seat, never a build.
Only stories the persona is in, never stories they commented on. A comment is their opinion — that is the [stance] line, already handled. A story that names them carries the world's record —「Fairweather said a tech slowdown could cool the market, 09-29 [SFGATE]」— which is exactly what the growth router takes, and it is free: the notebook is already written, no search. The bullet is dated the day the story ran and cites the source; it goes through the same verify step the sweep uses.
Yes, a reader can chat with a sketch — that is the point of it. Fei-Fei Li is named at 06:15; by 06:16 her name in the brief is a door and the reader is talking to her. What makes it a sketch is what is behind the seat, not what the reader can do.

Three reasons. A persona built from one article is the bystander the first read hated. A full build per story at sixteen briefs a morning is real money and the shared search budget. And a build takes minutes — the reader who tapped wants to talk now. The sketch gives「talk now」for cents; the full build is earned.

Short answer: a persona answers today from the model's compressed knowledge + profile.md + its growth record. The owner found two gaps: not the latest facts, and the many facets and details a profile can't hold. So a persona may search the web before answering — the way Claude and Gemini chat do — with a gate deciding whether, and the search shaped by the persona, not by a wire service.
The room has a web correspondent: a guest who types @Assistant gets a SERP search (en Serper→Brave · zh Bocha) → Flash distills a neutral 150-word fact-brief → it rides the same panel turn (lib/prompts/dispatch_brief.txt). Nobody types that. So the ask is two things: make the decision automatic, and make the search the persona's.

A SERP call plus a Flash distill ≈ 0.1¢; at a quarter of turns it is noise beside the speech call. DeepSeek's native search stays out (the 40–70 s tails measured 09-09).
The owner, 09-29:「if the result from a chat lookup is a recent hard fact about a persona, such as a Starship launch, it can go into the persona's recent」. Agreed, with one condition on how: not「chats never write」but one door writes. The lookup hands its result to the growth sweep's own verify → route → write step (recent_refresh_one has it) instead of writing the file itself — same dating, same source line, same check that the fact is about this Musk and not a namesake.
Two things fall out for free: on-demand growth —「what have you been up to?」routes to a self-lookup → a verified bullet → an answer from the record, so the weekly sweep becomes the floor, not the only refresh; and one fact, many minds holds — the record is one file for every chat, so the next guest who asks about Starship gets it without a search. Kept out: the guest's question, anything the guest said, opinions (those stay [stance]), and soft facts a search can't pin to a date and a source.
